All musicians/bands that have stepped in to the North Denver home of Bob Ferbrache's mom over the past twenty years. The unassumingly suburban Ferbrache house is the location of Absinthe Studios and a hidden fulcrum of the local music scene. If you didn't know it was there, you'd drive right past it. If you didn't know who Bob was, you'd probably walk right past him in a bar, perhaps only pausing to notice his sweatpants and fanny pack.
While being the epicenter of the creation of the "Denver Sound" best described as a combination of gothic and country, Bob's studio has also been the home for act as divergent as the lilting folk of Paper Bird, the anarchic craziness of the Warlock Pinchers to the dark industrial noise art of NON.
This documentary plans to follow both Bob's career as a musician and recordist, and thereby detail his overarching and profound effect upon the music scene of Denver. Using many hours of interviews, archival footage and more, this documentary hopes to provide a perspective of Denver's unique music scene, as heard through the ears of Bob Ferbrache.
Unlike most music documentaries, I plan on interviewing the bands, music journalists, promoters, etc. in groups rather than via a long series of one-on-one interviews. My hope is that this will create a much more organic and conversational tone (and be more insightful to the bands), rather than a staid group of talking heads. Unfortunately to do this well requires a much more challenging (and expensive) technical set up for the interviews: multiple cameras, lighting, multitrack audio recording and such. As such, the money raised will go to cover the production costs of the movie.
